ArtBasel Miami Beach-Meridians
The gallery is pleased to announced its first participation to Art|Basel Miami Beach in two sectors, MERIDIANS with:
Isabelle D (1966, France).
Isabelle D’s latest work marks her most ambitious project to date with over 105,000 crocheted, embroidered and fabricated pieces by the hands of the artist.
This 7,5 meters Triptych spanning over 11 meters of wall is titled ‘Fadi‘, a name commonly used in Middle Eastern Christian and Arabic-speaking communities meaning “redeemer” or “saviour”, often symbolizing Jesus—explores cultural heritage and identity. Through this piece, Isabelle threads together historical and contemporary narratives, reflecting not only on her homeland’s colonial Legacy and the continuing struggles of occupied territories but also on the lives and histories of women.
Her labour intensive process reveals the profound dedication infused in each loop or stitch. Pain and resilience converge in the piece’s intricate, chromatic composition, with colours evoking both suffering, survival and richness. Drawing on a textile technique similar to Japanese kaketsugi, Isabelle re-purposes fabric sometimes remnants tied to grief, layering them with powerful memory and emotion.
With Fadi, she continues her exploration of traumatology, examining the psychological wounds of trauma and pathways to healing through the rich, expressive medium of contemporary textile art.
