About the work:
As an elegant reactionary to the breakneck pace of destructive force felt in every imaginable realm of our world, multidisciplinary artist Agustina Woodgate focuses her practice on concepts of building, expanding and expounding upon new landscapes in the physical and metaphysical sectors of contemporary art. Like the iconic bayonet’s barrel stuffed with a flower, Woodgate actively shifts the patterns of violent ends and, instead, provokes beginnings. With a firm command over the most powerful forms of sensory output, Woodgate herself is a potent intervention; a statement embodied in the endless pursuit of brute creative force overtaking even the most fearsome socio-political phantoms.
A classroom-standard globe, sanded down to mere ambiguous landmasses and spaces on the sphere manifesting an entirely new geography. Water stains, rusty imprints and skid marks are retained in their present state, bridging the wear and tear of the past with a seemingly flawless impression of the future.
